Yakult began more than 80 years ago.
Dr. Minoru Shirota, who was the founder of Yakult, pursed preventive medicine and succeeded in strengthening and culturing our representative strain “Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota”. He then released an inexpensive, good-tasting fermented milk drink “Yakult” in 1935 so that as many people as possible could benefit from this lactobacillus.
Today 35 million bottles of our dairy products are consumed in 38 countries and regions across the world.
