SPEAKER – Plant foods, gut bacteria and sleep – their interactions on our health
Shanthi’s primary interest is in understanding how plant foods modulate host bacterial structure and functions. This has involved studying the growth and colonisation patterns of gastrointestinal bacteria. Her science has focussed on the role of whole foods and food components such as fibre, fibre fractions and polyphenolics on gut microecology. Her interest is in understanding the effect of food on gut health; gut-microbial interactions and host responses to such gut-microbial interactions, and recently on the connection between sleep and gut microbiome.
